Youth Engagement & Development
At FPATT, we recognize that youth are not just beneficiaries of our programs, they are vital stakeholders whose voices and leadership are essential to our mission.
As the future of Trinidad and Tobago’s families and communities, young people hold the power to influence positive changes in sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR). Our commitment is to ensure that youth are actively included at every level of our organization, shaping policies, programs, and initiatives that impact their lives. Our goal is to ensure that young people are not only engaged, but are empowered as leaders, advocates, and decision-makers in shaping sexual and reproductive health programmes and policies.
Embedding Youth Voices in Our Work
We believe that meaningful engagement of young people is fundamental to effective family planning and SRHR advocacy. Therefore, FPATT is dedicated to creating a sustained and impactful youth presence across all levels of our organization. This includes providing young people with opportunities to serve at the board level, participate in decision-making processes, and lead peer education initiatives. By doing so, we honor their perspectives and ensure our work remains relevant and responsive to their needs.
Youth Leadership and Capacity Building at the Core of Our Approach
A key component of our strategy is to foster leadership and build capacity among youth. We are committed to providing targeted training, mentorship, and skill development opportunities that empower young people to become confident leaders in SRHR advocacy. Through leadership workshops, peer education training, and organizational involvement, we aim to equip youth with the tools they need to effectively champion their rights and influence positive change.
This focus on capacity building ensures that youth are not only engaged but are also prepared to take on meaningful leadership roles within FPATT and their communities. By strengthening their skills and confidence, we enable young people to become resilient advocates who can shape policies, mobilize peers, and contribute to sustainable change.
Youth Leadership at the Highest Levels
We are committed to creating pathways for youth to serve on our Board of Directors, providing them with a platform to influence organizational strategy and advocate for youth-centered SRHR policies. Our constitution solidifies and strengthens this commitment. This inclusion not only fosters leadership skills but also ensures that youth perspectives are embedded in the strategic direction of FPATT.
A Youth-Centered Approach to Engagement
We are intentional in creating environments where young people can thrive:
- Provide Access to Information: Empower young people with comprehensive, accurate SRHR information.
- Promote Peer-Led Education: Enable youth to lead discussions and education sessions, fostering peer influence and trust.
- Shape Policies and Programming: Involve youth actively in shaping SRHR policies and programs to reflect their real-world experiences and needs.
- Support Social and Mental Health: Prioritize social support and mental health services to empower at-risk youth, building resilience, wellbeing, and informed decision-making.
Fostering Resilience and Wellbeing
Recognizing the unique challenges faced by at-risk youth, FPATT’s initiative emphasizes creating a supportive environment that promotes mental health and social resilience. Through targeted support services, we aim to empower young people to navigate their SRHR journeys confidently, make informed choices, and become advocates for their peers.
Join Us in Shaping the Future
FPATT believes that youth are not only the beneficiaries of our programs but also the architects of a healthier, more equitable future. We invite young people to join us, serve in leadership roles, and be active participants in shaping policies that impact their lives and communities. Together, we can build a Trinidad and Tobago where every young person’s voice is heard, valued, and acted upon.
Together, we are creating a future where youth-led change drives progress in SRHR for all.
