Emergency Contraception
Emergency Contraception
Emergency contraception (EC) refers to methods of preventing pregnancy that can be used after unprotected intercourse has occurred.
For example, it can be used after contraceptive failure (such as in cases where a condom breaks), when a method has been used incorrectly, after having sex without contraception, or after rape. EC can prevent pregnancy if taken within five days after unprotected sex, but works best when taken as early as possible within this time period. EC is not abortion.
